This is the house of the Yeongwol Sin clan, which became renowned around the time of the Japanese invasions of 1592–98 (the Imjin War) for producing Seongjae Sin Eung-sun (1572–1636) and Sin Eung-mang (1595–1654). It is said that Sin Am-gyu (1815–1886) later carried out major renovations. It is a large residence made up of eleven buildings in total, including the main hall and the sarangchae (men's quarters). The main hall is an L-shaped building in the central-region style, with a small room, a daecheong (wooden-floored hall), two rooms, a wooden-floored room, the main bedroom and a kitchen arranged in sequence. The sarangchae is a straight building made up of a daecheong, a room and a small side room; narrow wooden verandas (toenmaru) run along the front and back, but only from the southern end up to the front of the daecheong.
