The exact date when the Andong Kim Clan Bugaegong Head House was built is unknown. It was first built as the head house of the Noh clan, but as that family had no descendants, the family of a son-in-law, the Hwang clan, moved in to live there. The Hwang clan likewise had no descendants, so the family of a son-in-law, the Sin clan, took up residence. They too had no descendants, and Kim Hu, known as Bugaegong, the family of a son-in-law, settled there in turn; his descendants have lived there ever since. The head house stands on a spacious plot, with the men's quarters (sarangchae) and the main quarters (anchae) adjoining one another directly, with no separate gate building. The sarangchae has one bay serving as the master's room (sarangbang) and one bay as a wooden-floored hall (daecheong), with a further room attached behind the hall; the front of the hall is open, and the room behind it serves as a passage into the inner courtyard. The anchae is arranged around a three-bay daecheong, with rooms to its left and right. In front of the main bedroom (anbang) are a kitchen, a storeroom (gobang) and a rice chest (dwiju), with a cattle shed near the middle gate. The anchae's kitchen has a door leading out to the yard and a loft, and there is also a loft above the cattle shed.
