According to its ridge-beam inscription, this village shrine (byeolsindang) was built in 1897. The stones once enshrined inside were shaped like phallic stones (yanggeunseok), but all were stolen. People of Boseong County commonly venerate old trees as a shrine's sacred body, so enshrining as many as seven phallic stones together, as was done here, is unusual. Local residents say the seven stones symbolise the Seven Stars (Chilseong). Because the Chilseong stones resembled phallic stones, the shrine was widely used as a place where women who could not bear children came to pray. The stones also suffered damage, as women would chip pieces from the head of the stones to take away with them.
