This house stands in the innermost corner of Hoedeok Village. Paddies and fields lie in front, with the peaks of Jirisan Mountain spreading out beyond them, giving the house a fine outlook. Originally the whole village was made up of thatched houses, but only two remain today. The other keeps only its frame, its walls and windows having been rebuilt in a modern style. The main hall (anchae) and the lower quarters (araechae) are arranged in an ㄱ-shape around the inner courtyard, with a shed building in front, so that the whole forms an open ㄷ-shape. Between the main hall and the shed, a storehouse sits on the sloping ground, and outside, behind the men's quarters, there is a toilet. The main hall consists, from left to right, of a two-bay kitchen, a one-bay room, a storage room, a lower room and a small side room, with a back yard and sauce-jar terrace behind the kitchen. The lower quarters consists, from left to right, of a heated room, a shed and a storehouse. The roof has not been re-thatched in recent years, so that part of it has rotted and sunk, and weeds have grown up thickly; even so, the house has been scarcely altered and carries on well the form of a Joseon-period commoner's house.
