This is the head house of the Changnyeong Jo clan, said to have originally been the birthplace of Park Heup (pen name Yugidang), a leader of the righteous army. A typical house of a wealthy farming family of the late Joseon period, it is said to have had a five-bay thatched gate quarters and a shrine, but today only the main hall (anchae) remains; newly built outbuildings and a storehouse now stand in front, on the former site of the gate quarters. Apart from alterations to the kitchen and part of the entrance, the main hall retains most of its original form. Behind the main hall is a small, well-tended hill planted with crape myrtle and tall pine trees, and the main hall faces west with its back to this hill. Measuring five bays across the front and one bay deep, with a veranda bay running round all four sides, it is a typical straight-line (il-shaped) house of the southern region, arranged from north to south as kitchen, main room, a two-bay daecheong (wooden-floored hall) and a side room. Although first built a relatively long time ago, this typical straight-line house of the southern region has kept its original form well for its age, and it is a valuable example in which the old appearance survives clearly, both in the method of structural joinery and in the organisation of space.
