Jiyedongyangdongdaek House
지예동양동댁 · 知禮洞良洞宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the house where Kim Bang-hyeong, the elder brother of Kim Bang-geol (1623–1695, pen name Jichon), once lived. It was first built in 1663, the fourth year of King Hyeonjong, and is also known as Susanjae. After undergoing repairs on several occasions, only the main house (anchae), a shrine (sadang) and a cattle shed now remain. The main house forms an overall ㅁ-shaped (square) layout, with the sarangchae (men's quarters) projecting from the front left. In the main house, the women's room (anbang) and a storage room are arranged on either side of the central wooden-floored hall (daecheong), while in the sarangchae a corner room (mobang) and a wooden-floored room are placed on the left, and a heated ondol room, a men's-quarters veranda and a study are placed on the right. While it shows the general house form typical of this region, it displays distinctive features in the arrangement of the storage room in the main house and the corner room in the sarangchae. It originally stood in Jirye-ri, Imdong-myeon, but was relocated to its present site in 1988 owing to the construction of Imha Dam.
