The house is said to have been built in 1775, the 51st year of King Yeongjo of Joseon, by Kim Gyu-jin. Lee Jae-cheon bought it in 1964, and the present owner purchased it in 1986, since when it has been called Danpo Historic House. The building standing today was moved to its present site in 1987 because of the construction of the Imha Dam. It measures four bays across the front and five bays along the side, with a square, courtyard-style (ㅁ-shaped) floor plan enclosing an inner courtyard. The sarangchae, the men's quarters, projects by one bay on each side, and the roof is a gable roof (matbae roof), whose side profile forms the shape of the Chinese character 人 (person).
