The building faces due south, set against the hills of Sagomak-gol in Homyeong-myeon. The main house stands on sloping ground, and outside the east wall an earthen wall was built to enclose a separate shrine. This was the house of Yi Deok-chang (1569-1616), the owner's ancestor of seventeen generations back, built during the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon. Yi Deok-chang was a scholar who raised a righteous army during the Japanese invasions of 1592 and rose to become Jeong of the Naejasi, the office handling palace provisions. He built the house on his ancestors' old homestead and hung a plaque reading "Sagoguryeo" in the main hall of the women's quarters. The main house, the shrine, and the gate building, three structures in all, face south. The main house is formed by a square (ㅁ-shaped) women's quarters with the men's quarters to the west; the women's quarters originally had a six-bay hall, which was later reduced to four bays and converted into rooms. Though somewhat altered, the building shows the residential style of the local gentry of the region, and as an example that well illustrates the characteristics of mid-Joseon architecture, it is valuable material for the study of architectural history.
