This house, at the foot of Ilwolsan Mountain, was where the mid-Joseon civil official Hoegok Gwon Chun-ran (1539–1617) lived in his later years. As Gwon Chun-ran had no son, he adopted as his heir the eldest son of his younger brother, Chun-gye; the house is presumed to have been built by Gwon Chun-gye before the Japanese invasions of 1592–98. The main house (jeongchim) and a shrine survive. The shrine originally stood behind and to the right of the main house but was moved to its present location in 1738, the 14th year of King Yeongjo. The main house is square (ㅁ-shaped) in plan, five bays wide and five bays deep, and still retains some traces of its original construction. The shrine houses the Collected Works of Hoegok (Hoegok seonsaeng munjip), together with royal certificates of appointment (gyoji), identification tags (hopae), a register of meritorious subjects (gongsillok) and biographical accounts (haengjanggi).
