This house was used as a refuge for the family of Jeong Mun-bu (pen name Nongpo, 1565–1624), who achieved great military merit during the Japanese invasions of 1592. After the war, as he returned to his hometown of Jinju, he gave the house to his granddaughter's husband, Yi Gang (pen name Sawidang); it was later purchased by the sixth-generation ancestor of the present owner, and has remained in the family ever since. The buildings are laid out in the shape of a tortoise on tortoise-shaped land. A detached annex (byeoldang) and a mill were placed where the tortoise's forelegs would be, while at the front, corresponding to the head, was a chamber used for raising silkworms. The tail section held the latrine.
