This house was built in 1795, the nineteenth year of King Jeongjo of Joseon, by Gwon Seong-ik, who used the pen name Yeongok. He was a native of Andong and the eighth-generation descendant of Gwon Ui, pen name Yaong, who had first settled in Jegok village. Gwon Seong-ik became a gundaebu (a military post) at the age of twenty, and later served as sabokgi-jeong (head of the royal stables). The anchae (main quarters) and sarangchae (men's quarters) are joined to form a quadrangular building whose front corners extend outward on both sides; together with a gate house and three shrine buildings, they form a single compound. It is a typical house of the northern Yeongnam region and conveys an air of antiquity.
