This kkachigumeongjip, a 'magpie-hole house' built in Suan-gol, Buncheon-ri in the late 19th century, has a hole at the end of the roof ridge that lets out smoke generated inside the house and lets in light. It measures three bays across the front and two bays along the side, with an additional one-bay cattle shed. All the rooms have mud walls reinforced with wooden rods, while the bongdang (earthen-floored entrance hall), kitchen and cattle shed are built of plank walls. Two plank doors are hung in the centre bay of the front, and the house follows the basic form of a Gyeongsangbuk-do kkachigumeongjip, with an earthen-floored bongdang at the front and a wooden floor at the rear. The addition of a narrow storeroom formed by enclosing the back of the floor shows an element of the kkachigumeongjip style found in the southern part of Gangwon State mixed in here. It is a dwelling that well illustrates the geographical character of its location, the northernmost part of the Gyeongsangbuk-do region.
