설매리겹집 · 雪梅里겹집

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis house stands in Keunmaeul, Seolmae-ri. Its exact date of construction is unknown, but it appears to have been built around 150 years ago. The roof was originally thatched but was replaced with slate in the 1970s. The house measures four bays across the front and two bays along the side, and is a gyeopjip, a house whose interior is arranged in two rows. From the left, the front row holds a stable, a bongdang (earthen-floored hall) and a kitchen, while the rear row holds rooms, a wooden floor and a storeroom. The outer walls of the bongdang and the cattle shed, and the rear wall of the bongdang floor, are built of plank walls, while the rest is mud wall reinforced with wooden rods. It is a dwelling that carries some general elements of the kkachigumeongjip, the 'magpie-hole house' type, but overall shows a distinctive composition.
