Yeongju Cheongguriipseok is a standing stone (ipseok) set at the entrance to the village of Notjeom (a place where brass tableware was once made). An ipseok is a long natural stone, or one partly carved, erected as an object of folk worship — a form of spirit worship descended from primitive belief. Here two completely unworked natural stones stand side by side, and beneath the right-hand stone lies a dolmen. Until the 1970s there is said to have been a shrine house (dangjip) behind the stones, dedicated to the village's guardian deity, showing that this site combines primitive belief with folk religion. Presumed to date from prehistoric times, these standing stones have long served as objects of prayer for those wishing for children and for abundance. Unlike most such stones, which are set up singly, it is unusual in having two placed side by side.
