This is a jaesil, a ritual hall built near a family tomb for ancestral rites, erected close to the grave of Son Jung-don (1463–1529), a civil official of the early Joseon period. He passed the state examination in 1489, the twenty-first year of King Seongjong, and in 1506 took office as magistrate of Sangju, where his benevolent rule was long remembered; local residents built a saengsadang, a shrine honouring a living person, and enshrined his portrait there in gratitude. In 1510, the fifth year of King Jungjong, he was named one of the Cheongbaengni, officials recognised for their integrity, and went on to hold a succession of posts including Minister of Personnel, Inspector-General, and provincial governor. When he died in 1529, the twenty-fourth year of King Jungjong, at the age of sixty-seven, the king is said to have suspended court audiences for two days in mourning. This hall was built in 1663, the fourth year of King Hyeonjong, by his great-great-grandson Son Jong-ha, and was rebuilt in 1873, the tenth year of Emperor Gojong. It is five bays across the front and two bays deep.
