This house was built by Kim Sang-gu (1746–1814) when he set up an independent branch household. The name of the house, Sambyeokdang (三碧堂), comes from the pen name of his son, who held the posts of Dongmonggyogwan, a minor education official, and Dongji jungchubusa, with the honorary senior second-rank title of Jaheon daebu. Thought to have been built in the mid-18th century, the house preserves well the characteristics of a late Joseon dwelling of the Andong region. In particular, the area above the sarang floor, and the small wall-set shrine recess (gamsil) and attic space built to enshrine ancestral tablets, retain their original appearance.
