Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building was erected near the tomb of the Joseon-period civil official Nam Chang-nyeon (1463–?) so that rites could be held in his memory. An inscription on a roof tile indicates that it was built in 1826, the twenty-sixth year of King Sunjo of Joseon. Nam Chang-nyeon had passed the civil service examination during the reign of King Yeongjo of Joseon, but when his teacher, Jeong Yeo-chang, fell victim to the Muo Sahwa literati purge of 1498, he retired to his home in Andong. He was later recommended for his learning and appointed professor at Buryeong, and is said to have written a work titled Seonggyeongdoseol, though it no longer survives. The building stands in a place thick with pines, known as Solmagol ("Pine Valley"), and is a south-facing, square (ㅁ-shaped) structure with no surrounding wall. A plaque reading "Dunjae" hangs on the building, and the ceiling structure visible above the main hall and the windows set in the rear wall clearly display traditional building techniques of the period.
