Yeo Yeon-dang Historic House, Pohang
포항 여연당 고택 · 浦項 與然堂 古宅

This house was used as a place of refuge for the family of Jeong Mun-bu, pen name Nongpo, who served as Bukpyeongsa (a frontier military inspector of the north) during the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon and distinguished himself during the Imjin War, the Japanese invasions of 1592–1598. After the war, when Jeong Mun-bu transferred his annex buildings in their entirety to his grandson-in-law Yi Gang, this house was among the attached buildings. It was then passed down to Yi Gang's second son, Yi Deok-ryeong, and has continued in the family line to the present; the current owner, Yi Won-dol, is a ninth-generation descendant of Yi Gang. The house is a wooden, tile-roofed building with four bays on the front and six bays on the side, arranged in a square (ㅁ-shaped) layout. Built in the mid-Joseon period, it illustrates well the conditions of that era.
