Provincial Folklore Heritage

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis house stands in a village where members of the Yeongcheon Yi clan live together, and is said to have been built around 1900. The building is composed of an anchae (women's quarters), sarangchae (men's quarters), heotganchae (storage wing) and mungan-chae (gate wing). The anchae and sarangchae form a ㄷ-shaped (U-shaped) layout, with the heotganchae standing opposite them to give an open ㅁ-shaped, or square, overall plan. Although the floor plan and building techniques show no particularly distinctive features, the house offers a good example of how several generations once lived together under one roof.
