Myeong Jung Historic House, Cheongdo
청도 명중고택 · 淸道 明重故宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krIn the late Joseon period, Park Rae-hyeon (1861–1896), grandson of Ungang Park Si-muk, built this house in 1881, the 18th year of Emperor Gojong. His second son, Park Sun-hui (1896–1934), later moved in and gave it the name 'Myeong Jung Historic House.' Entering through the daemunchae (gate quarters), one sees the sarang courtyard, and beyond the jungsarangchae (middle men's quarters) stands the anchae, the main women's hall known as the jeongchim. To the left of the inner courtyard is the mill house and to the right the storehouse, the whole forming an open ㄹ-shaped (zigzag) layout. Doors were fitted across the entire daecheong (wooden-floored hall) of the jeongchim, reflecting the secluded way of life of women in a yangban (scholar-official) household at the time.
