This house preserves the form of a traditional dwelling of Ulleungdo Island and was built in the 1940s. A gwitteuljip, also called a tumakjip, is a log house whose walls are built up from logs notched and interlocked in a well-frame pattern, then roofed over with wood shingles, oak bark, or birch bark. It is a three-bay, single-range house comprising a one-bay meoritbang (head room) with walls of notched logs, a one-bay large room, and a one-bay kitchen built of sorghum stalks. No earth was packed between the logs, allowing air to circulate freely, and the kitchen floor was set lower, with a cooking hearth and underfloor heating installed.
