Guktandaek House, Andong
안동 국탄댁 · 安東 菊灘宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis house was built in 1757, the thirty-third year of King Yeongjo of Joseon, when Gim Si-jeong, a descendant of the late Joseon civil official Kim Bang-geol (pen name Jichon), set up a separate branch household. It has a square plan: the main women's quarters measures four bays across the front and three bays to the side, while the men's quarters measures four bays across the front and one bay to the side. Both were built with relatively simple structures, but their interiors were finished to a high standard. The house originally stood in Jirye-dong, Imdong-myeon, but was relocated to its present site in 1988 owing to the construction of Imha Dam.
