Songcheonseryeo Historic House, Yeongdeok
영덕 송천세려고택
Songcheonja Kwon Deuk-yeo (1636–1716) moved here from Gwaneodae in Yeonghae, and this historic house was built in the 1700s by his son, Kwon Dae-rim, pen name Chirujeong, in the shape of the Chinese character 日 (il). Passing through the four-bay gate quarters of Seryeo Historic House, across a narrow yard stands the main house, a square (口-shaped) building five bays wide across the front and five and a half bays deep. To the left of the central gate within the main house are a cattle shed and a storeroom; behind the storeroom a passage room and kitchen adjoin to form the left wing, which links to the women's quarters. To the right of the central gate is the men's quarters (sarangchae), where a study and an upper sarang room adjoin; behind the upper sarang room is a lower sarang room linking to the right wing. In front of the upper sarang room is a wooden-floored sarang hall two bays wide and two bays deep, which projects forward to form a wing. The sarang hall has a well-pattern wooden floor and is a five-purlin structure with trapezoidal plate king-posts above the ridge purlin; on the upper wall on the sarang-room side hangs a plaque reading "Chirujeong" (七友亭). Passing through the central gate, across the inner courtyard stands a three-bay daecheong hall; the main bedroom (anbang) lies to its left, with a storage room above the head of the bedroom and, above that, a loft reached from the floor by a log ladder fixed to the wall. To the right of the daecheong hall is a sangbang room, and in front of it a through-passage bay of a kind commonly seen in the Yeongdeok region; it is a sturdy three-purlin structure with trapezoidal plate king-posts above the main beam. As one of the few houses in Gyeongsangbuk-do laid out in the shape of the character 日, it is valuable material for the study of the history of housing.
