Sambyeokdang is the head house (jongtaek) of Yi Jung-ryang (courtesy name Gonggan, pen name Hayeon; born 1504, the tenth year of Yeonsangun's reign, died 1582, the fifteenth year of King Seonjo) of the Hayeon-gong branch of the Yeongcheon Yi clan; his father was Nongam Yi Hyeon-bo. The building stands facing south at the rear left of Illyang village. In its layout, a shrine (sadang) and the square (ㅁ-shaped) main house are arranged in a single row to the right. It measures five bays across the front and five and a half bays in depth, with a sarangchae (men's quarters) of three bays by three bays to the left of the central gate passage. The chief distinguishing feature of Sambyeokdang is that old-style elements survive well: grooves for a central door-post in the rear lattice doors of the main daecheong hall, and similarly old-style door frames in the wing corridor to the right of the main body, so that the building retains the architectural elements of a mid-Joseon-period house in good order.
