Bak No-su House in Ogin-dong
옥인동 박노수 가옥 · 玉仁洞 朴魯壽 家屋

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis house was built by Yun Deok-yeong (1873–1940), a civil official of the late Joseon period, for his daughter. Yun Deok-yeong was a pro-Japanese collaborator who, together with Yi Wan-yong, actively worked towards the signing of the Japan–Korea annexation treaty, and he held a succession of official posts, including Chanjeong (a senior minister) of the Uijeongbu, the State Council. Built around 1938, the house is a two-storey brick building. The ground floor consists of ondol-heated rooms and a maru, a raised wooden-floored hall, while the upper floor is entirely maru-floored. In addition to combining the building techniques of traditional Korean hanok and Western-style houses, it also mixes in Chinese-style elements, and was lavishly finished, with as many as three fireplaces installed inside.
