반송삼절사 · 盤松三節祠

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBansongsamjeolsa enshrines the spirit tablets of Yang Ji, Yang Jo-han and Yang Tong-han, members of the Yang clan who died for their country during the Japanese invasions of 1592–1598, and holds memorial rites for them. During the invasions, Yang Ji, as magistrate of Gwangju in Gyeonggi, died defending the walled town he was guarding; Yang Jo-han died fighting at Dongnae Fortress, while his younger brother Yang Tong-han died leading righteous-army resistance alongside Gwak Jae-u at Hwawangsan Mountain. On a site of about 400 pyeong, a traditional unit of land area, stand three wooden buildings: a shrine hall enshrining the spirit tablets, a jaesil (a hall for preparing and holding memorial rites), and a caretaker's building. These buildings were erected in 1839, the fifth year of King Heonjong of Joseon, by Yi Myeong-jeok, magistrate of Dongnae, and have taken their present form after several subsequent repairs. Every spring and autumn, descendants of the three meritorious subjects, local Confucian scholars and residents gather to console the spirits of the three men and honour the memory of those who died for the nation, holding memorial rites according to traditional ritual.
