This is a shrine built to honour Maejukheon Seong Sam-mun. Seong Sam-mun was a civil official of early Joseon and one of the Sayuksin, the "Six Martyred Ministers." Born in Hongseong, South Chungcheong Province, he passed the state examination in 1438, the twentieth year of King Sejong, and was chosen as a scholar of the Jiphyeonjeon, the Hall of Worthies, where he received King Sejong's deep favour. He travelled to Ming China to study phonology and the examination system, and made a great contribution to the historic promulgation of Hunminjeongeum on 9 October 1446. He also planned, together with Bak Paeng-nyeon and Heo Jo, a movement to restore King Danjong to the throne, but the plot failed, and he was subjected to severe torture by King Sejo before being executed by dismemberment. A leading example of unwavering loyalty in the Joseon period, he remains an object of popular reverence to this day as one of the Six Martyred Ministers, and was also admired for his outstanding natural gifts and literary renown. His posthumous title was Chungmun. Munjeolsa stands at the north of Daljeon-ri village; it measures three bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a gable roof shaped like the character 人 when viewed from the side.
