Yi Jun-gu House in Gahoe-dong
가회동 이준구 가옥 · 嘉會洞 李俊九 家屋
Cultural Heritage Material

This is a two-storey Western-style house built around 1938. It uses high-quality materials befitting an upper-class residence of the Gaehwagi, Korea's late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Enlightenment Period. The walls are built of stone shaped and laid like brick, and the roof, said to use French tiles, is steeply pitched. The entrance is decorated at the top with a rainbow-shaped arch, and lattice-patterned windows are set into the building in several places. Even after more than sixty years, it displays a refinement that is in no way inferior to modern buildings.
