Gwanpungnu Pavilion
관풍루 · 觀風樓

This was formerly the main gate of the Gyeongsang Provincial Office, built in 1601, the 34th year of King Seonjo of Joseon. Gwanpungnu's original name was Pyemullu (閉門樓, "Gate-Closing Pavilion"), as music was played here to mark the opening of the gate at five in the morning and its closing at ten at night. The name was later changed because the provincial governor would observe the affairs of the world from atop this building. It is a two-storey pavilion measuring three bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a hipped-and-gabled roof that forms the shape of the character 八 (meaning "eight") when viewed from the side. The bracket sets that support and decorate the roof eaves are shaped like bird wings. Railings are set along all four sides of the building, and a staircase at the rear allows people to go up and down.
