This is a water basin remaining within Seongnamsa Temple, used to hold water for the monks. Seongnamsa was founded in 824, the 16th year of King Hyeondeok of Unified Silla, by State Preceptor Doui, and today it is widely known as a training centre for Buddhist nuns. Unlike the usual square form, the basin has each corner of its square rounded off, and it is very large in scale. Each surface is finished with refined, well-polished workmanship, suggesting it was made in the late Goryeo to early Joseon period. It is currently preserved under a protective shelter, and its condition is good enough that it could still hold water for use today.
