Yi Se-ju Tomb Hall Deopgae
이세주 묘 관 덮개 · 李世胄 墓 棺 덮개

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the coffin lid from the tomb of Yi Se-ju (1626-1710), dating from the reign of King Sukjong of Joseon. At a session where the king was receiving lectures on the Confucian classics, Chief State Councillor Choe Seok-jeong spoke of Yi Se-ju, who was training many talented students at a seodang (village school) he had opened in Jeunri (present-day Hagik-dong). King Sukjong then granted him an official post and met him in person. Yi's tomb was originally located in Dongchun-dong, Yeonsu-gu, but was relocated owing to a development project. At the time of excavation, a myeongjeong (a funerary banner inscribed with the deceased's name and official titles), which had covered the coffin, was reportedly attached to the coffin lid.
