A jangdae is a raised platform from which a commander would stand to issue orders. This jangdae, in Namseong-dong, Jinju, belongs to the western gate area of Jinjuseong Fortress. According to the Yeojidoseo, a Joseon-period geographical gazetteer, it appears there under the name Hoeryongnu Pavilion, and although smaller in scale, it is recorded as having been a loft-style structure similar to Chokseongnu Pavilion, the southern command post of Jinjuseong Fortress. The present building, after the original had collapsed, was newly rebuilt in 1934 by Seo Sang-pil. It is a wooden, tile-roofed structure measuring three kan across the front and two kan on the side, with a hip-and-gable roof whose side profile forms the shape of the Chinese character 八 (eight).
