This pavilion is where Yi Gyeong-dong, who held the high offices of Vice Minister of War and Inspector-General during the reign of King Seongjong of Joseon, returned to his home village and spent his later years fishing in the Chucheon Stream in front of it. Yi Gyeong-dong passed the state examination in 1462, the eighth year of King Sejo, and began his career as an official. In 1899, the third year of the Gwangmu era of the Korean Empire, his descendant Yi Jeong-ho built this pavilion to commemorate the places associated with Yi Gyeong-dong, and named it Chucheondae Pavilion.
