Daean-dong Sinheungsa Temple Gu Daeungjeon Hall
대안동신흥사구대웅전 · 大安洞新興寺舊大雄殿

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building served as the former Daeungjeon Hall, the main hall, of Sinheungsa Temple in Daean-dong, a temple affiliated with Tongdosa Temple. No record survives of when Sinheungsa Temple was founded, but it is said to have been built during the Silla period, and it was one of the temples that served as a base for monk soldier activities during the Japanese invasions of 1592-1598. When Sinheungsa Temple built a new Daeungjeon Hall in 1998, this building was relocated to its present site. It is three bays wide and two bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof that forms the shape of the Chinese character for 'eight' (八) when viewed from the side. The bracket sets decorating and supporting the roof eaves are in the ikgong style, assembled in the shape of a bird's wings, and show a relatively simple structure.
