Geumnam Moindang Hall is the jaesil, or ancestral ritual hall, of the Hwasun Choe clan, housing the spirit tablets of Choe Han-jeong (1427–1486) and his son Choe Jung-on. The Hwasun Choe clan branched off from the Gyeongju Choe clan during the Goryeo period. Choe Han-jeong, whose tablet is enshrined here, passed the jinsa licentiate examination in 1456, the second year of King Sejo, and three years later passed the higher civil service examination in the third (byeonggwa) rank. King Seongjong placed his trust in him and appointed him Daesagan, head of the Office of the Censor-General, after which he served as Second Minister of the Ministry of Personnel and then Second Minister of the Ministry of Rites. This building was erected in 1669, the eleventh year of King Hyeonjong, and was rebuilt in 1928. It measures four kan across the front and two kan along the side; a wooden-floored hall is laid in the centre of the building and fitted with folding doors that can be raised to open up extra space during ancestral rites. Ondol-heated rooms are placed symmetrically, one bay to either side, and, seen from the side, the roof is built in the hipped-and-gabled (paljak) style, in the shape of the character 八 (eight).
