Yonghwasa Temple, Tongyeong
통영 용화사 · 統營 龍華寺
Cultural Heritage MaterialJoseon · 1628

The exact date of its founding is not known, but Yonghwasa Temple is thought to have maintained an unbroken Buddhist lineage since the Silla period. In 1628, the sixth year of King Injo of Joseon, a great fire destroyed most of its buildings, and after several subsequent restorations the temple's name was changed to Yonghwasa. The temple precinct contains Bogwangjeon Hall, the main hall, along with other halls such as Myeongbujeon Hall and Yonghwajeon Hall, as well as the yosachae, the quarters where the monks live, and a pavilion called Haewollu.
