The lower part of this Buddha's legs is buried in the ground, and the face has been damaged beyond recognition. The halo consists of a head halo around the head and a body halo around the body, each rendered as a double line, but the body halo has been completely destroyed and the head halo is also badly damaged, so its details can no longer be made out. The body is relatively refined, with the area above the waist rendered elongated. The broad shoulders down to part of the chest have been worn away, so it is impossible to tell how the robe was draped, while below the chest the drapery is rendered densely in slanting, stepped folds. Not far to the north stand the flagpole supports of the former Samnangsa Temple site. According to the Samguk yusa, Namhangsa Temple once stood south of Samnangsa, and so this site is presumed to be the former site of Namhangsa. Namhangsa is associated with the legend that, during the reign of King Hyoso of Silla, the Eleven-Faced Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva cured the illness of the monk Gyeongheung of Samnangsa.
