This village school was established in 1865, the second year of Emperor Gojong of Joseon, by the Gyeongju Choi clan living in this area. It did not originally stand at its present site but was moved here in 1973 because of road construction. The school is said to take its name 'Dogam' from Dokjwaam, a rock to its west where King Taejo Wang Geon of Goryeo is said to have fled alone and sat in hiding after his defeat by Gyeonhwon at the Battle of Gongsan. The building has a gable roof that, seen from the side, takes the shape of the character 人 (person). Although founded by the clan, it educated not only the clan's own descendants but also the children of the surrounding area, and produced many capable scholars.
