The dinosaur footprint fossils found here are believed to belong to dinosaurs that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, around 100 million years ago. At that time dinosaurs are known to have lived in the river floodplains of savannah regions, under a subtropical climate with alternating wet and dry seasons and the influence of tropical trade winds. The footprints here are impressed on a rock surface of about 91 square metres, comprising some 80 footprints in all, including tracks belonging to iguanodontid herbivorous dinosaurs and to carnivorous dinosaurs. The tracks are arranged as if made at a running pace, and have been interpreted as showing a single carnivorous maniraptoran dinosaur pursuing nine individuals of Goseongnyong, a herbivorous dinosaur of the iguanodontid group. The dinosaur footprint fossils here are in a good state of preservation, making them valuable material for research into the natural history of the Ulsan region during this geological period.
