Yeongnamnu Pavilion
영남루 · 永南樓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is thought to be the gate pavilion of Hwachukgwan, built in 1602, the thirty-fifth year of King Seonjo of Joseon, and used as a detached palace where the king stayed when travelling to the hot springs. It originally stood at the front gate of Jungang Elementary School and was moved to its present site in 1959. The building measures three bays across the front and two bays on the side, with a hip-and-gable roof that, seen from the side, takes the shape of the character 八 (eight). There is a flight of steps at the centre of the front, and a balustrade runs around all four sides. Inside the building is preserved a commemorative text written by Uam Song Si-yeol.
