A budo is a stupa symbolising a monk's grave, in which the monk's remains or relics are enshrined. This stupa originally stood at Bocheonsa Temple in Gunsan and was moved here to Hyebongwon; it is also known as the Yeonhwadang Stupa. Overall it consists of a low square base stone, on which a three-tiered octagonal pedestal is built, topped by a ball-shaped body stone and an octagonal roof stone. Of the pedestal, the lowest support stone is carved with a double layer of lotus petals, and above it stands a further tall support propping up the middle support stone. This support is a feature found only on this stupa: narrow at the top and wide at the bottom, so that each face forms a trapezoid, and decorated at top and bottom with carved lotus patterns. By comparison the middle support stone itself is very low, and the upper support stone is carved with an eight-petalled lotus. The roof stone slopes steeply on its upper surface, and at its peak a round stone and a bud-shaped stone are stacked in turn above a low base to form the finial. The tall pedestal and the elongated finial together give the whole stupa a slender, elongated appearance. The tall support propping up the middle support stone is this stupa's most distinctive feature; judging from the skill of its carving, it appears to have been made later and newly fitted in.
