This well is located on the slope of Doyeon Hill in Namgan Village, presumed to be the site of Namgansa Temple. According to the Samguk yusa, it is clear that Namgansa Temple was built before the twelfth year of King Heondeok's reign (820), though its exact founding date is unknown. The well is square, with each side of the upper opening about 1.2 metres long, and its present depth is about 1.4 metres. The outer wall of the well is built up with natural stones, and the top is finished with a circular frame made of two dressed stones joined along a north–south line; the diameter of this well frame is 88 cm. A double band runs around the well frame, upper and lower, the upper tier carved at a right angle and the lower tier carved in a curve, giving it variation. Together with the Bunhwangsa Temple stone well and Jaemaejeong Well, this well is an important source that clearly shows the original form of Silla-period wells.
