Gosanjeong Pavilion, Jinju
진주 고산정 · 孤山亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is where Jeong Hwon spent his later years in seclusion. Unwilling to be drawn into the tyrannical rule of King Gwanghaegun, Jeong Hwon withdrew to this place, built a pavilion, and named it Gosanjeong. The building is four bays across the front and two bays deep, with a paljak roof, a hipped-and-gabled roof shaped like the character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. It has toikan, narrow additional bays, at the front and rear, and a daecheong, an open timber-floored hall, on both the left and right. Railings surround three sides, all but the rear. The pavilion and the shrine behind it are arranged in a line running north to south, in the shape of the character 二 (two). The shrine is three bays across the front and one bay deep, and its roof is likewise of the paljak type.
