This fortress stands at the summit of Mt. Bioksan, to the north of Sangseo village in Dongsang-ri, Onyang-eup, and is also known as the Dongsang-ri Fortress Site. The main wall runs from north to south-east, commanding fine views to the south over the Hoeya River and the Namchang area. The wall survives for about 500m, standing up to around 150cm high, and is circular in plan. Bioksanseong Fortress was built from dressed natural stone using the naetak method, in which both the inner and outer faces of the wall are raised as nearly vertical stone faces. Old remains such as the Hasan beacon site, Seosaengpo Manhojinseong garrison fortress and the Unhwa-ri fortress site are found nearby, suggesting that Bioksanseong played an important part in defending Korea's south-eastern coast.
