This stele stands at a site where, whenever a national mourning occurred, local Confucian scholars (yurim) would gather to bow facing north. When Emperor Gojong passed away in 1919, Yi Gi-yun of the Seongju Yi clan, one of the local Confucian scholars grieving his death, erected this stele in 1921. It stands near the top of a hill in Pyeongchon-ri village, Dongi-myeon, and was only recently discovered.
