Juseong Lecture Hall, Cheongju is an annex building of Mogeunyeongdang, the shrine hall enshrining a portrait of Mogeun Yi Saek, a Neo-Confucian scholar of the late Goryeo period. Juseong Lecture Hall was a place for pursuing scholarship; although it is not known exactly when it was first built, it is said that many Confucian scholars were produced through it. It has been repaired several times since its founding, and was restored close to its original appearance in 1966. The lecture hall is a wooden tile-roofed building of five bays across the front and two bays deep. In plan, a wooden-floored central hall is placed in the middle, flanked on either side by ondol-heated rooms. Its frame is of the five-purlin type without a central row of columns, fitted with plank king-posts, and its roof is a hip-and-gable roof with single eaves. The lecture hall has retained its original form since its founding, and in particular its main ridge beam uses the raw log as it was, without shaping. The large ridge beam appears somewhat rough yet carries an elegant charm. The building materials are also well preserved, showing the woodworking techniques of the Joseon period. To the left of the lecture hall stands an outer three-bay gate facing south, and, like the shrine hall, the surrounding area is enclosed by a stone wall topped with tiles. A pond was dug in front of the lecture hall to enhance the surrounding scenery. Mogeunyeongdang, which includes Juseong Lecture Hall, is recorded as having begun construction in 1710, the thirty-sixth year of King Sukjong, been completed in 1714, and had the portrait of Mogeun enshrined within it. The present shrine hall is a building repaired in 1980, a wooden tile-roofed structure of three bays across the front and one and a half bays deep. Its frame is of the five-purlin type with a single central column, and its roof is a hip-roofed gable roof with single eaves. Inside, folding doors are fitted onto a single open wooden-floored room, with a front floor laid, and a plaque reading "Mogeunyeongdang", written by Suam Gwon Sang-ha, is hung there. In front of the inner three-bay gate stands the lecture hall, Juseong Lecture Hall, and all the buildings face west. In the courtyard stands a stele recording the life of Mogeun, composed by Yi Seong-won and written by Yi Hang-bok in 1987. Juseong Lecture Hall, Cheongju, as the lecture hall of Mogeunyeongdang, shows regional characteristics in its timber and construction techniques.
