Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSangwoljeong Pavilion was built in 1457, the third year of King Sejo of Joseon, by Kim Ja-su, after he resigned from office and retired to the countryside, on the former site of Daejaam Hermitage. It was rebuilt in 1808, the eighth year of King Sunjo, by Yeonjae and Chojeong, but after flood damage in 1851, the second year of King Cheoljong, it was rebuilt again by Go Jae-jun, Go Gwang-jo and others; the rafters and beams were further repaired in 1858, the ninth year of King Cheoljong, bringing the pavilion to its present form. It measures four kan across the front and two kan to the side, and its roof is a hipped-and-gabled roof, shaped like the Chinese character for 'eight' (八) when viewed from the side.
