The stone seated bodhisattva of Inseongam Hermitage is enshrined in the Daeungjeon Hall. It stands 35 cm tall, with a shoulder width of 16 cm, a head height of 17 cm including the crown, and a knee width of 23 cm. The surface has been regilded, and the statue is overall well preserved, with the eyebrows, eyes, moustache, beard and lips painted to bring out their detail. The bodhisattva sits in full lotus position with its head slightly bowed and back held straight, both hands resting on the knees. The robe is worn in the style of a partial inner garment (pyeonsam) with the outer robe (daeui) draped lightly over it. The face is square, with narrow eyes looking downward. The nose is prominent, and the raised modelling of the philtrum and upper lip is notable. The three lines customarily shown on a Buddhist figure's neck are incised, and the head wears a plain, unadorned crown. Strands of hair fall from beneath the crown, passing over the ears in two lines onto the shoulders. The outer robe descends in a U-shape below the chest, above a slightly protruding belly. The sleeves of both arms are folded back at the wrists, and the fingers resting on the knees are unusually long, a distinctive feature of the piece. The skirt-like lower garment (gunui) is rendered with regular folds arranged in a fan shape. Because this stone bodhisattva contains no consecration deposits, its exact date of production cannot be confirmed, but on the basis of its carving technique and style it is thought to date from the late Joseon period. It is a heritage item of considerable documentary value for the study of this region's Buddhist sculptural style in the late Joseon period.
