Namhuijeong is one of two pavilions built in the eighth year of King Cheoljong of Joseon (1857) by Hwang Jong-rim, who served as magistrate of the Damyang region, in order to care for the elderly of the area and educate its young people. It was renovated in 1925, and in 1981 it was relocated beside the 88 Olympic Expressway owing to the expressway's construction. Namhuijeong has two bays across the front and two to the side, and its roof is a hip-and-gable roof shaped like the Chinese character for "eight" when viewed from the side. Pavilions built, like Namhuijeong, to care for the elderly and educate the young are very rare, making this an important example.
