This pagoda originally stood at the old site of Bogwangsa Temple, a place known as Tapgol, or Pagoda Valley. The temple fell into ruin during the Japanese invasions of 1592–1598, leaving only the pagoda standing, and it is said to have been moved to the present Gwaneumsa Temple in 1928. The pagoda consists of a base decorated on each of its four sides with carved pillar-shaped mouldings, topped by a single body stone and three roof stones stacked in sequence. Although some of the stonework is missing, the three tiers of supporting brackets on the underside of the roof stones suggest that it was built during the Goryeo period.
